Founded by photographer and urban observer J. A.D. Woodhouse, SQUELCH is a visual studio exploring the edges of architecture, memory, and urban decay.

Through photographic prints and self-published photographic zines, SQUELCH captures brutalist forms, nostalgic textures, and the quiet poetry of overlooked places.

SQUELCH is a signal through the static.

ABOUT

The Ethos

SQUELCH is a reaction…

[ to noise ]

[ to overstimulation ]

[ to the surface-level scroll ]

SQUELCH silences the visual and background noise and surface something stranger, quieter, more resonant.

Its about slowing down and tuning-in; to materials, to silence, to composition.

It’s about telling stories through grain, dust, grit, and geometry.

It’s about revealing the poetry in overlooked places.

squelch [skwelch]

noun · radio terminology

- a function in radio receivers that suppresses background static when no strong signal is present — silencing the noise to maximise clarity.

- to isolate signal from chaos; to reveal something honest beneath distortion.

the PHOTOGRAPHER

Based in Australia, J.A.D. Woodhouse is a photographer and urban observer.

Gritty, nostalgic, and stylised, his work blends documentary realism with a considered post-production, often landing in a space between abstraction and architectural study.

He brings a structured eye to unstructured places; abandoned ambiences, geometric tensions, the between spaces, and the slow decay of built environments.

SQUELCH is his imprint, his archive, and his method for filtering the noise.
